All the technical talk about sleep can get dragging and pressuring, especially if you’re already having a hard time getting some. So, for a change, we’ve rounded up some interesting sleep facts and sleep-related facts that you might find interesting. Check them out below.
A lot of us get seriously spooked when watching scary shows but we didn’t really expect some of the best horror storytellers to feel the same. So much so that they sleep with the lights on! Well, at least King did in 1982 when he mentioned doing so in an interview. Makes him a teensy bit relatable, no? (Not really, but maybe?)
We’ve repeatedly talked about how your bed partner can be the very reason why you can’t get quality sleep. This could explain why more and more couples are sleeping in separate beds.
In fact, about 1 in 7 British couples while 1 in 4 American couples have separate beds in their bedrooms. Experts are calling it the ‘sleep divorce‘ and lots of people can attest to how it has improved their zzz’s and relationships with their spouses.
Tilda Swinton did an art performance at the Serpentine Gallery in 1995 which involved her sleeping inside a glass box for a few hours a day. It was a collaboration with artist Cornelia Parker, Swinton was put on display with other rare artifacts but she’s there in contrast with other items. The exhibit is better described in this article, really.
She also recreated this performance in 2013 at the Museum of Modern Art. It’s not the same as the first run, though, and is done without the other pieces in Parker’s earlier show.
For most people, having trouble falling asleep is a common occurrence. Some don’t even see it as the serious issue that it is. However, some of these conditions can get fatal so it’s definitely not something you should brush off.
While rare, the Fatal Familial Insomnia is very much real and affects a few folks around the globe. It can cause people to lose their ability to fall asleep and it runs in families.
But it’s not just rare sleep disorders that can kill you. Drowsy driving is said to cause about 1500 fatalities per year in the US. That’s a whole lot more than shark-related deaths yearly (which averages to 5) and most of us are more scared of this than driving while sleep deprived!
With just how complex sleep can be, it shouldn’t be surprising that there are tons of interesting trivia about and related to it. We’d share more in the future, so stay tuned!Tags:
